Sigtryggur Hilmarsson

General Manager

Mr. Hilmarsson started as General Manager at MEDOR in 2011 after 5 years as the General Manager of Vistor‘s medical division and 1 year as the director of business development at the same company. Prior to joining the Veritas group of companies, he worked as the marketing director at Radiometer America Inc. in Cleveland, USA, as an international product manager at Radiometer Medical in Copenhagen, Denmark, and as a pharmacokineticist/analyst at Pharmacia in Helsinborg, Sweden.

Mr. Hilmarsson holds an MBA degree from Erasmus University, Rotterdam School of Management (1996), a Master of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iceland (1993) and has finished an Executive Management Program from Columbia Business School in New York (2001).

Mr. Hilmarsson is the Chairman of the Board at ORF Genetics and sits on the Board of directors at Stoð.

Vala Dröfn Jóhannsdóttir

Division Manager | Medical supplies and equipment

Mrs. Johannsdottir has worked as Manager of MEDOR‘s Medical Equipment department since 2020. Prior to that she worked in Vistor, first as Key Account Manager and from 2013 as Marketing Manager of Cluster 5 (Novartis & Alcon). Mrs. Johannsdottir has also previously worked as Marketing Manager of Research Services and as a Molecular Biologist at deCode Genetics. She has a Diploma in International Business and Marketing from University of Iceland, a Master‘s degree in Biochemistry/Genetics from l‘Université des Sciences et Techniques de Languedoc in Montpellier, France, and a B.Sc. in Molecular Biology from the University of Iceland.

Karl Friedrich Karlsson

Division Manager | Services and support

Mr. Karlsson has worked as Division Manager of MEDOR’s Technical department since 2020. Prior to that he worked as a technician in MEDOR’s technical department as from 2016. Between 2008-2016 he worked as a technician at Landspitali University Hospital’s health technology department. Mr. Karlsson has a tradesman’s certificate in electronics.

Þóranna Jónsdóttir

Chairman of the board

Thoranna has recently worked as independent management consultant, e.g. for Alvotech, Marel and several public institutions. She has served in various positions at Reykjavik University, served as dean of the Department of Business from 2013-2016 and prior to that as senior executive director of strategy and operations. Thoranna served as Business Development Officer at the sister companies Veritas and Vistor in 2005-2008, she was the first General Manager of Artasan and one of the founders of Audur Capital. Thoranna has extensive experience of board membership, she is Chairman of the Board of Landsbref, a member of the board of Veritas since 2018 and prior to that, among others, served on the boards of, Krónan, Íslandsbanki and Lyfja. Thoranna holds a doctorate in business from Cranfield University, an MBA degree from IESE in Barcelona and a master´s degree in pharmaceuticals.

Þorvaldur Ingvarsson

Board member

Thorvaldur graduated from the medical department of the University of Iceland in 1987 and with a doctorate in orthopedic surgery from Lund University in 2000. Thorvaldur is an orthopedic surgeon at Akureyri Hospital and a lecturer at the University of Iceland medical department. Previously, he worked as the executive director of Össur's development department. He has also served as director and medical director of Akureyri Hospital. Thorvaldur has extensive experience in healthcare and has worked on many committees on behalf of the public.

Ingibjörg Eyþórsdóttir

Board member

Ingibjörg is a registered nurse with a master's degree in healthcare management. Ingibjörg is the nursing director at Sólvangur nursing home, and prior to that, she was with the software company Kara Connect, where she worked on designing telecommunications software that improves access to services in the education, welfare, and healthcare sectors. Previously, Ingibjörg worked as the operations manager of Klíníkin Ármúli, where she was involved in all aspects of development and implementation. Before that, she worked both as a department manager and as sales and marketing manager at Johnson & Johnson with Icepharma. Ingibjörg has extensive experience and knowledge in both the private and public healthcare sectors and has been involved in development and construction projects in these fields.

Ari Kristján Sæmundsen

Board member

Ari graduated with a B.Sc. in biology from the University of Iceland in 1974. He was a part-time lecturer at the University of Iceland and the Nursing School of Iceland and a substitute teacher at Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík while completing his fourth-year research project at the University of Iceland's Research Institute in virology. He graduated with an M.Sc. in microbiology from Virginia Tech in the United States in 1978 and a Ph.D. in virology from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 1982. Ari was one of the founders of Gróco ehf. in 1983 and its CEO from 1985. Finally, he worked as business manager at MEDOR ehf. from 2012-2018, and now he is retired. Ari was briefly on the board of the Icelandic Engineering Society, the Reykjavik Cancer Society, and the biotechnology company CanAg Diagnostics AB in Gothenburg. He was part of the National Research Council's biotechnology task force in 1983 and chairman of the Icelandic biotechnology possibilities committee on behalf of the Ministry of Industry in 1984.
